Why I Started My Crochet Business
I never imagined turning one of my favorite hobbies into a real business. I actually tried twice before, but neither attempt went anywhere. I might’ve gotten one or two orders, but nothing that made me feel like I was truly building something. Looking back now, I can admit I simply didn’t pour real effort, intention, or heart into it. At the time, it was more like: “Here are my crochet items, here’s the price, and here’s how to order.”
Crochet was something I loved something I did in my spare time, but it didn’t yet hold a deeper meaning.
How Crochet Entered My Life
It all started with a bag full of yarn I had originally bought to knit. But knitting and I… we didn’t get along. So, the yarn sat there untouched, waiting for the right moment.
Then COVID hit in 2019. Being stuck inside, dealing with the silence and the stress, had my mind running. Those four walls started closing in, and I needed something to ground me something to focus my energy on. Out of nowhere, I decided I wanted to crochet a blanket. I already knew how to make a chain, so I figured I’d start there.
Being left-handed made everything more challenging. My mom crochets beautifully, but she’s right-handed, so she couldn’t teach me the way she learned. Still, I taught myself how to do a single crochet. I made it through three rows… then quit. It was too big of a project for a beginner especially using single crochet stitches.
I frogged (undid) the blanket and didn’t return to crocheting until 2022.
The Real Beginning of My Crochet Journey
In 2022, something shifted. Crochet started tugging at my spirit again. This time, I discovered the iconic Ruffle Hat. That hat became my spark, my inspiration, and the true beginning of this journey. I learned how to make it from Unique Stitch Designs’ left-handed crochet tutorials on YouTube.
From those videos, I learned how to:
- make a magic ring
- double crochet
- count stitches
- count rows
That’s when it happened, crochet became more than a hobby.
It became a way to slow down my world.
A way to breathe.
A way to turn a single strand of yarn into something beautiful and meaningful.
Crochet offered me peace, focus, and a sense of calm that I didn’t even realize I needed.
Why This Time Is Different
This time, I’m starting my business with intention and purpose not just hope. I’m approaching it with a real plan, a vision, and a deeper understanding of what my craft means to me.
I want my brand to feel soft, comforting, and meaningful like receiving something handmade with love, not just made to fulfill an order.
What Makes Crochet Special
I don’t have to oversell the beauty of crochet because the truth speaks for itself.
Crochet is special because:
- every stitch is done by hand
- every piece is shaped slowly and intentionally
- every design takes patience, time, and skill
- handmade means no two pieces are ever exactly the same
- hours of craftsmanship go into even the simplest piece
And then there are the ruffles my signature. Feminine, playful, bold, and full of personality. They feel like joy stitched into shape.
Crochet carries a warmth that machines can’t produce. It has soul. It has story. It has heart.
My Goals for the Future
As I grow my business, my goals reach far beyond sales:
✨ Creative fulfillment allowing myself to explore new designs, colors, and textures.
✨ Sharing my craft inspiring others and showing the beauty in handmade work.
✨ Building community connecting with people who appreciate soulful, meaningful creations.
✨ Encouraging others especially those who are afraid to start something new or try again after failing.
I want this brand to become a home for creativity, comfort, and handmade beauty.
